In international engagement, intention alone does not determine meaning. Even small decisions may communicate recognition, distance, authority or respect. Together, these visible and less visible elements form the invisible architecture of an encounter.

Why this matters?

Leaders sometimes assume goodwill will translate into desired outcomes. In international settings, goodwill is a necessary but insufficient condition. Misread signals can harden distance, undermine authority or trigger unintended diplomatic cost.
